As a result of helping expats make a home away from home, five Asian destinations rank in the top 10 favourites for the overall expat experience, according to new research by HSBC bank.
Thailand comes out top – with China, Singapore, India and Taiwan all showing well. Spain, in ninth place, is the only European country in the table.
More than a third (35%) of 7,000 people asked by HSBC agreed they had a better life after relocating to one of the top10 expat experience nations, compared to the survey average of just over a quarter (26%).
Asia also ranks well in another table for expat income – with China second and Thailand coming fourth, followed by Indonesia (6) and Singapore (9).
Switzerland took the top place as the nation where expats expect to earn the most.
Germany best for parents
The research showed expats in Switzerland, Qatar and China all enjoyed high incomes and better financial stability than those in any other nations.
The continent ranked less well as a place for expats to raise children – with Singapore the only Asian nation in the top 10, taking second place. Germany was the favourite expat destination for parents.
Europe ranked higher than other regions for parents – with France, Belgium and Spain featuring. Other family-friendly places included Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
The bank’s Dean Blackburn said: “Asia was voted the leading destination for expat quality of life, with the region also emerging as an expat social hotspot.
“With a record number of expats participating this year, the survey provides a comprehensive picture of life abroad, the challenges expats face and the idiosyncrasies that make the expat experience unique.”
