Get Ready For Black Friday And Cyber Monday Bargains

Shoppers are getting ready to bag some online bargains as retailers slash prices as the annual Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales approach.

A host of deals are expected across the board and some stores, such as Amazon and Asda – the UK brand of American discounter Walmart – stretch the price cuts across the whole of November.

Prices will drop in just about every online store as brands compete for sales worth billions worldwide.

Black Friday on October 24 is the big discount day as shoppers hit the internet in their millions.

Traditionally, Black Friday signals the start of Christmas shopping in earnest in the US as the day follows Thanksgiving, a big family holiday.

What is Black Friday?

Cyber Monday follows four days later – this year that’s November 28.

Last year, online stores chalked up more than 1.5 million sales on Cyber Monday alone.

Understandably, retailers want to stretch the shopping splurge to make even more money, so in recent years, price cuts have started earlier.

Amazon runs a sale through November with ‘lightning deals’ flashing up every day.

Because of the time differences, depending on where you are in the world, you may have to stay up late to track down that special purchase.

Black Friday started in the US in the 1950s and the name is attributed to traffic chaos and crowds flocking to stores in Philadelphia over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Where to find the deals

Cyber Monday is a more recent sales pitch. Analysts noticed that some shoppers extended their online buying to the first day back at work after Thanksgiving, so set up some special bargains for them.

Many stores have already set up their Black Friday and Cyber Monday web sites where shoppers can sign up for earlybird treats and price cut news.

Some stores have already started their sales, such as Chinese technology giant Lenovo, while Dell will open a sale on November 16.

If you miss Black Friday and Cyber Monday, stores will have their usual online sales – but Amazon will run another Prime Day with some spectacular bargains in July 2017.
