As Palestinian missile strikes and answered with jet fighter sorties by the Israeli air force, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advises against all travel to the region.
The deadline for assisted evacuation closed at 1pm on July 1, 2014.
British national stranded in Gaza can contact the British Information and Services Office for help.
“Our ability to help people in Gaza is very limited,” said an FCO spokesman. “Rocket attacks and jet strikes are continuing and no one should go into the area.”
The Palestinians are reporting a rising number of casualties in Gaza.
The hostilities seem to be intensifying as rockets were launched out of Lebanon into Israel for the first time.
Hundreds of rockets have been fired across Israel, targeting the main cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa.
“Shrapnel has hit Tel Aviv and even shipping off the coast,” said the FCO spokesman. “We are telling expats to keep an eye on the local news and to quickly run for shelter if air raid alerts sound.”
Libya shootings
British expats and travellers in Libya are warned that attacks against foreigners are likely and many people have been killed or injured in shootings during the past six months.
The FCO advises against travel to:
- The coast from the Tunisian border to Misrata, including Tripoli and Jebel Nafusa.
- The coast from Ras Lanuf to the Egyptian border, excluding Benghazi and Derna.
“There is a high threat of kidnapping. Since January, several foreign nationals have been kidnapped, including in and around the capital Tripoli,” said a FCO spokesman.
Iceland volcanic activity
Iceland is experiencing heightened seismic and volcanic activity – especially around the Mýrdalsjökull glacier.
The government and police are also warning tourists to stay away from the Hvolsvöllur district around Sólheimajökull glacier, due to a risk of flash floods.
Sulphuric gases are escaping from the rivers Múlakvísl and Jökulsá in Sólheimasandur.
Nepal trekkers at risk
Travellers to Nepal are urged trek with a reputable agency; stay on established paths and to travel in groups due to risks of earthquakes and flooding during the monsoon season, which lasts from now until November.
Flights to and from Nepal are restricted as all carriers from the country have been refused landing permission in the European Union.
